Upcoming Dog Event: Desert Dog Police K-9 Trials April 9th and 10th, 2011

The Arizona Law Enforcement Canine Association (A.L.E.C.A.) in partnership with the Scottsdale, Mesa & Phoenix Police Departments, is happy to announce that Scottsdale Healthcare is once again joining as a proud sponsor of The Desert Dog Police K-9 Trials 2011. We would like to invite you to attend the DESERT DOG POLICE K-9 TRIALS, that will be held at the newly renovated Scottsdale Stadium, on April 9th & 10th, 2011.

During the weekend events, you will be able to observe many active Police, Military, Government and Security canine teams from around the nation competing in various field exercises. Most of the events will be timed for the purpose of a tiebreaker. Many of these teams will also be competing in various building exercises. Because the building, narcotics and explosives searches must take place in a controlled environment, we are unable to showcase this part of the competition. However, demonstrations will be performed during some of the intermissions. Vendors will be on site selling shirts, hats and other canine and police related products. Canine, SWAT and Fire Vehicles will be on display, hopefully even a Police Helicopter!

The events that the teams will be competing in include, Handler Protection, Tactical Building Search, Building Search, Agility / Obstacle course, Area Search, Narcotics and Explosives Search.

The annual Desert Dog Police K-9 Trials are not funded by any public funds. All costs associated with this event must be raised through donations, sales of program ad space or vendor booth fees. If you or your business would like to become involved in supporting or sponsoring these trials, setting up a vendor booth, advertising in the program, K-9 Team entry, or assisting your local K-9 unit, contact Owen Keefe at owen@desertdogk9trials, or sign up for our K-9 Team mailing list, vendor list or program ad and we will send you the information as soon as it becomes available.  More information here: http://www.desertdogk9trials.com/

Deaf Great Dane Puppy Dog Training Testimonial

Happily giving Rob and Lose the Leash five stars after just one lesson! Rob came highly referred and has not disappointed. I have a deaf Great Dane puppy who some have affectionately nicknamed “The Minion” as in one of Satan’s Minions he’s so devilish, and within five minutes at the initial consultation Rob had him obeying the Come When Called command using a vibrating collar as a means of communication. I signed up for the private lessons (which include unlimited group lessons!) and have to say it’s been money well spent. Less than a week after our first lesson we were at Fiesta Island just after dark when Atticus slipped through a gate someone had left open. Before I knew it, he was on the road with cars coming. I used the remote to buzz him, and he immediately came trotting back to me… safe and sound! With Rob’s training, I’m able to communicate with my deaf dogs whether they’re looking at me or not and whether they’re at my side or playing with their four-legged friends at the dog beach or park. It’s amazing what he’s been able to accomplish in only one lesson. Atticus is quickly becoming a canine good citizen… and we owe it all to Rob and Lose the Leash!

Client Testimonial – Off Leash Recall, Around Distractions!

Hi Rob,

I wanted to let you know that I really enjoyed our training yesterday. Also just to let you know something positive that happened this morning…I had let Boris out to go potty and had not put either collar on him yet. I heard him start his barking/fence fighting with his arch enemy, Chevy the Rott. I went out and called him to come…he acknowledged me IMMEDIATELY…I repeated come and he actually came. I have NEVER been able to recall him from the fence when he is in that frenzied state of mind. I gave him so much praise for that. Normally he would stop barking and go as far from me in the yard as possible and make me go and get him. So I know with lots of consistent training he will do really good.

Thanks again!

–April Baker

Here’s a Video of April and Boris during In-Home Training.  Boris had been a bit aggressive on his walks with dogs in the neighborhood, as you can see, he’s getting a bit better!
